Doctor Steven Strange is an American comic book charcater published by Marvel Comics. Created by Steve Ditko with Stan Lee, Doctor Strange first appeared in the comic Strange Tales #110. Doctor Stange was created during the Silver Age of Comic Books to bring themes of magic and mysticism to Marvel Comics, previously missing from all published Marvel Comics. Doctor Stange serves as the Sorcerer Supreme, the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.

The character starts as a brilliant and egotistically arrogant neurosurgeon, but suffers severe nerve damage to his hands from a car accident. He is told that current medical therapy and rehabilitation would not be able to enable him to be a surgeon again. Unable to accept this, Strange travles the world in search of alternative ways of healing, eventually discovering the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme.

Doctor Strange studies under the Sorcerer Supreme and slowly learns to become a master of both mystical and martial arts. Over time, Strange aquires an assortment of mystical objects, including the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation, and begins to live in a mansion in New York City called the Sanctum Sanctorum. Later Strange Assumes the title of Sorcerer Supreme and defends the world from mystical threats.
